Lancaster City Council & Preston City Council operate as a shared service for the provision of revenues and benefit functions, and as part of this provision we are committed to paying the right amount of housing benefit and council tax support to the right people at the right time.   Both sites are “full” service providers in respect of Universal Credit, which brings with it additional workload in processing multiple changes in a claimant’s circumstances.

In the circumstances, an opportunity has arisen to recruit 2 Benefits Officer posts, based at Lancaster or Preston.

Duties include:

  • Administrative matters in relation to Universal Credit
  • Processing of benefit claims in accordance with Housing Benefit regulations and Council Tax Support rules, ensuring claims are processed accurately and paid promptly.
  • Communicate with customers, their representatives, other organisations and professional  bodies, including services within the Council on matters concerning the assessment of entitlement to benefit
  • Check and verify all information given by customers and/or obtained from other sources, in accordance with the requirements of locally set standards of verification, ensuring that the gateway to benefit is secure by reducing the instances of fraud and error.

We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated applicants preferably with a working knowledge of Benefits and an eye for detail.  The work is challenging and therefore the ability to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines is essential.
