Adapting the homes of people with disabilities to make them safe and accessible is a statutory function of the Council. At the present time the Council has a significant budget allocation for this area of work and needs to enhance the skills within the team to deliver adaptations to the greatest number of recipients in a timely manner.  


The new post of Senior Surveyor has been created in order to assist the Team Leader in a range of duties but primarily relating to the delivery of more complex Disabled Facilities Grants involving significant adaptations and extensions to domestic dwellings. This involves visiting properties, surveying and identifying required adaptations, drawing up plans and technical specifications as necessary and in some cases supervising tenders for the work in question. A good technical knowledge of buildings and construction are therefore essential.


The post holder will also need to be an excellent communicator in order to liaise with clients, who are often vulnerable older people, their families, occupational therapists and contractors as necessary. The ability to deliver a service with high standards of customer care will be essential, particularly at the current time when COVID safe working practices have been put in place to protect potentially vulnerable clients and staff.


The post holder needs to be a good team player, and able to plan and organise their own workloads to deliver a very high caseload in accordance with statutory requirements and grants procedures in order to meet deadlines. Some supervision of the Grants surveyor in the team will be required and on occasion to deputise for the Team Leader


At the present time, many of the Council’s services are still being delivered remotely by staff working from home, with visits to the office base or properties being planned in advance.
