Adapting the homes of people with disabilities to make them safe and accessible is a statutory function of the Council. The post holder will be required to assist the Team Leader in a range of duties but primarily relating to the delivery of Disabled Facilities Grants. This involves visiting properties, surveying and identifying required adaptations, drawing up plans and technical specifications as necessary. A good technical knowledge of buildings and construction are therefore essential.

The post holder will also need to be an excellent communicator in order to liaise with clients, who are often vulnerable and older people, their families, occupational therapists and contractors as necessary. The ability to deliver a service with high standards of customer care will be essential, particularly at the current time when COVID safe working practices have been put in place to protect potentially vulnerable clients and staff.

The post holder needs to be a good team player, and able to plan and organise their own workloads to deliver a high caseload in accordance with statutory requirements and grants procedures. This is a post which offers high job satisfaction due to the benefits applicants get from the work undertaken, but you will need to be able to manage multiple deadlines and a high volume of customer interaction.

At the present time, many of the Council’s services are being delivered via a hybrid model. This involves staff working both from home and from the office base at the Town Hall in Preston city centre. This post will be suitable for some form of hybrid working although regular visits to Preston will need to be made to undertake property surveys.  Please indicate on your application whether or not you have access to a pc or laptop to facilitate home working or whether the Council will need to facilitate this.

For further information or an informal discussion about the post, please contact the Grants & Support Services Team Leader, Junaid Mogara on 01772 906766, or
