Preston City Council’s Parks and Streetscene Service is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to fill the role of Assistant Head Gardener. 

You will assist the Head Gardener supervise our grounds maintenance teams as well as dealing with the operation of the nursery including plant care and production.

The job covers for all aspects of horticulture shrub pruning, plant care, grass cutting, bowling green and sports pitch maintenance, as well as plant growth and care and the ability to create decorative flower beds, when required

A significant proportion of this work may be carried out in listed parks where attention to detail and a commitment to strive for the best practicable standard of maintenance will be required.

The role will also involve the supervision of a team of Gardeners who are carrying out this work with you therefore experience of leading a team, planning workload and supervising staff is required.

The applicant must be willing to learn and be able to work well unsupervised or in a team. Good communication and customer service skills are also important aspects of the role.
